Surveillance of Acute Gastroenteritis in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Update as of January 4, 2022.

Cases of gastroenteritis continue to rise, according to data from hospital emergency departments and SOS Médecins, with a notable increase among children under 5.
Week 52 of 2021 (December 27, 2021, to January 2, 2022):
738 emergency department visits for acute gastroenteritis (AGE), representing 2.9% of total hospital emergency department activity (2.4% in Week 51);
54% of AGE visits involved children under 5 years of age (n=394);
Of all emergency department visits among children under 5, 13.4% were for AGE;
990 SOS Médecins calls for AGE, representing 9.1% of total activity (8.1% in S51)
According to virology data from Bordeaux University Hospital, concurrent circulation of norovirus, rotavirus, and adenovirus has been observed; however, norovirus was the predominant virus in Week 52;
Several cases of gastroenteritis in nursing homes were reported in S52.
At the regional level, with the exception of Vienne, high activity for GEA is observed in all departments of the region.
