Surveillance of Acute Gastroenteritis in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Update as of December 16, 2021.

Key Points

Gastroenteritis activity remains stable at a high and significant level among children under 5.

Week 49-2021 (December 6–12, 2021):

  • 528 emergency department visits for acute gastroenteritis (AGE), representing 2.0% of total hospital emergency department activity (1.9% in Week 48);

  • Nearly 60% of AGE visits involved children under 5 years of age (n=315);

  • Of all emergency department visits among children under 5, 10% were for AGE;

  • 778 SOS Médecins calls for AGE, representing 8.4% of total activity (7.5% in Week 46)*

  • According to virology data from Bordeaux University Hospital, concurrent circulation of norovirus, rotavirus, and adenovirus has been observed; however, norovirus was the predominant virus in Week 49;

  • Several reports of gastroenteritis cases in schools;
