Headlines - 2010 Annual Report on Sexually Transmitted Infections
The latest national STI bulletin has just been posted on the InVS website. This bulletin tracks trends in major STIs based on indicators provided by networks of clinicians (RésIST) and laboratories (Rénago, Rénachla, LGV).
In 2010, the main findings are as follows:
the number of gonococcal infections continues to rise,
the declining susceptibility of gonococcal strains to first-line antibiotics (broad-spectrum cephalosporins) requires continued vigilance,
the number of screenings and diagnoses of urogenital chlamydia infections continues to rise,
the relative stability in the number of cases of recent syphilis and rectal lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) needs to be confirmed in the coming years,
there remains a high level of HIV co-infections with LGV and syphilis, and to a lesser extent with gonorrhea,
the consistent use of condoms remains insufficient, particularly during oral sex.
