Public Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of September 4, 2015.

Mortality: The mortality rates recorded by the civil registry offices in the sentinel municipalities in S34 are below expected levels.

Emergency room visits by at-risk populations: According to available data, emergency room activity for children under 1 year of age is below expected levels. Emergency room activity for those aged 75 and older remains in line with expectations.

Chikungunya and dengue: enhanced surveillance in Gironde and Lot-et-GaronneSince May 1, 89 suspected cases have been reported. Among these, 3 imported cases of dengue and 3 imported cases of chikungunya have been confirmed. In total, as of August 28, in the 20 metropolitan departments subject to enhanced surveillance, 62 imported cases of dengue and 18 imported cases of chikungunya have been confirmed. Two locally acquired cases of dengue have been confirmed in Nîmes (Languedoc-Roussillon region).

Notifiable Diseases (ND) No significant changes this week.

Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE)Activity is stable in Aquitaine, in line with expected values for this time of year. Nationally, activity is slightly up, according to Oscour®, with values comparable to previous years.

Asthma and allergiesIn Aquitaine, activity for asthma and allergies is slightly down. Nationally, there is an increase in asthma activity among children. Forecast for this week: very low to low pollen allergy risk for grass pollen in the region.

Respiratory virology and enterovirus meningitis: The number of enterovirus meningitis cases is stable (0 from the university hospital’s virology lab and 1 from Oscour®).

Heat-related illnesses – End of surveillance as of 08/31/2015 In Aquitaine, activity rose slightly in connection with the heat wave on 08/29, with 0.6% of procedures performed by SOS Médecins and 0.5% of emergency room visits in the Oscour® network.This season was marked by a prolonged period of intense heat (June 30 to July 8) and sporadic heat peaks (July 16 and August 29), triggering a yellow or orange heatwave alert for at least one department in Aquitaine.

Mushroom poisoning (indicator not detailed in the body of the document)Increase in poisonings related to mushroom ingestion in Aquitaine, with 23 cases in S35 according to CAPTV and 13 according to Oscour®. Since June 29, 2015, 47 cases according to CAPTV and 18 according to Oscour® (212 and 157 in France) (data to be consolidated).
