Public Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of June 21, 2012.

Update as of June 21, 2012 - Outbreaks involving carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) in France. Epidemiological situation as of May 18, 2012.

The first outbreak involving CPEs was reported to the InVS in 2004. To date, 211 such outbreaks have been reported by healthcare facilities and/or the National Reference Center for Antibiotic Resistance or other expert laboratories. Previously published but unreported episodes (n=5) were also included in this update. The number of episodes involving CPE has been rising sharply since 2009. There were 10 episodes reported in 2009, 28 in 2010, 111 in 2011, and 53 in the first months of 2012.
