Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of October 3, 2013.

Mortality:
The number of deaths recorded from civil registry data over the past few weeks is in line with expected levels for this time of year.

Emergency department visits by vulnerable populations
No significant changes in emergency department visits for children under 1 year of age and adults aged 75 and older, which remain within expected ranges for this time of year.

Reportable Diseases (MDO)
Note the persistently high incidence of IIM in the region, particularly in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, but only one new case in September.

Enterovirus
meningitis In Aquitaine, activity is low according to Oscour® and the virology department at Bordeaux University Hospital.

Acute gastroenteritis (AGE)
In Aquitaine, as in France, AGE activity in hospital emergency departments and primary care is stable, with numbers comparable to previous years.

Bronchiolitis
In Aquitaine, following the increase observed in Week 38, bronchiolitis activity among children under 2 years of age is stable in Week 39 according to SOS Médecins and the Oscour® network. Nationally, bronchiolitis activity continues to rise according to Oscour® and remains stable according to SOS Médecins.

Vector-borne diseases
In Lot-et-Garonne, since the resumption of enhanced surveillance for chikungunya and dengue, two imported cases of dengue have been confirmed by the CNR for arboviruses.

Asthma and Allergies
In Aquitaine, as in France, asthma activity is declining. No significant changes in allergy activity with the end of the pollen season.

Mushroom poisoning (indicator not detailed in the body of the document)
Since July 1, 2013, in Aquitaine, 11 cases of poisoning linked to mushroom consumption have been observed, including 2 new cases reported in S39 (Oscour® data).

School absenteeism: reactivation of the SentEcole network since September 4, 2013
The school absenteeism rate remains stable in S39. No single health-related cause was predominantly reported.
