Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of July 30, 2015.
Mortality: The number of deaths recorded during the first three weeks of July remains close to expected levels. A national report on mortality linked to the heat wave that affected France from June 29 to July 8 will be available by the end of the summer.
Emergency room visits by vulnerable populations: According to available data, emergency room activity for those aged 75 and older is in line with expectations. Emergency room activity for children under 1 year of age remains close to the alert threshold.
Chikungunya and dengue: enhanced surveillance in Gironde and Lot-et-GaronneSince May 1, 56 suspected cases have been reported. Among them, 1 imported case of dengue and 3 imported cases of chikungunya have been confirmed. In total, as of July 30, in the 20 metropolitan departments subject to enhanced surveillance, 389 suspected cases have been reported. Among them, 33 imported cases of dengue and 14 imported cases of chikungunya have been confirmed. There are no autochthonous cases.
Notifiable Diseases (ND) No unusual situation this week.
Acute Gastroenteritis (AG) Moderate and stable activity in Aquitaine. Nationally, activity is declining, with figures comparable to previous years.
Asthma and allergiesIn Aquitaine, asthma consultations are declining according to Oscour® and SOS Médecins, while they are rising slightly for allergies. Indicators are stable or declining nationally. Forecast for this week: very low to low pollen allergy risk for grass pollen in the region.
Respiratory virology and enterovirus meningitisHigh number of enterovirus meningitis cases (9 virology reports from the University Hospital and 5 from Oscour®), consistent with national trends (see national section below as of 07/15).
ChickenpoxIn Aquitaine, chickenpox activity is in line with expected levels for this time of year.
Heat-related illnessesIn Aquitaine, the decline that began in week 28 of 2015 continues, with heat-related cases accounting for 0.8% of total SOS Médecins activity and 0.6% of total Oscour® network activity in week 30 of 2015. No heat wave is forecast by Météo France as of July 30, 2015.
