Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of February 20, 2014.
Mortality: The number of deaths (all ages and those aged 75 and older) recorded at the regional level remains close to the alert threshold, with figures typical for this time of year.
Emergency room visits by vulnerable populations: The number of emergency room visits among children under 1 year of age is stable but remains at a high level. No significant changes for those aged 75 and older.
Reportable Diseases (MDO)No significant changes this week in Aquitaine.
Virology and enterovirus meningitis: Circulation of seasonal respiratory viruses according to the Bordeaux University Hospital, notably influenza A and RSV; enterovirus meningitis remains stable according to Oscour®.
Acute gastroenteritis (AGE) In Aquitaine, activity is slightly increasing according to the Oscour® network and SOS Médecins. Indicators have stabilized at the national level, though there has been an increase in emergency room visits among those aged 75 and older.
Influenza and influenza-like illnesses: Ongoing influenza epidemic with predominant circulation of type A influenza viruses.
Bronchiolitis: Bronchiolitis activity is stabilizing in France and Aquitaine according to SOS Médecins, Oscour®, and the AquiRespi network, with 120 children treated on February 15–16.
Carbon monoxide poisoningSince September 2013, 37 incidents (including 6 in the last 15 days), 83 people exposed, 59 transported to emergency departments (France: 839 incidents, 2,538 exposed, 24 deaths).
School AbsenteeismThe overall school absenteeism rate continues to rise. The most commonly reported health-related causes are influenza and acute gastroenteritis.
