Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of April 2, 2015.
Mortality: Since Week 9, mortality has been declining across all age groups, including among the elderly, and the number of deaths has fallen below the alert thresholds since Week 11. Over the first 12 weeks of 2015, winter mortality in the region was 18% higher than expected (16% nationally). Influenza is known to contribute significantly to excess mortality among the elderly, though it is not possible to specify its exact share of the excess observed this season.
Emergency department visits by vulnerable populations: According to available data, emergency department activity for those aged 75 and older and for those under 1 year of age remains close to expected levels for this time of year.
Reportable Diseases (MDO)No unusual situation this week.
Acute gastroenteritis (AGE) Moderate activity, declining in Aquitaine. Nationally, activity is stable but higher than in 2014 for this period.
Influenza and influenza-like illnessesThe epidemic has ended in both mainland France and Aquitaine, with 2.6% of activity related to influenza for SOS Médecins in the region (compared to 3.9% in Week 12 of 2015) and 0.1% for Oscour® (compared to 0.2% in Week 12 of 2015).
BronchiolitisModerate to low activity, with the number of cases treated in emergency departments and by SOS Médecins remaining stable compared to last week. Decrease in the number of cases treated by the AquiRespi network during the last shift.
Respiratory virology and enterovirus meningitis: Stabilization of influenza virus circulation according to the Bordeaux University Hospital, particularly influenza A (35%), with the presence mainly of RSV (17%) and coronaviruses (17%).
Carbon monoxide poisoning (update as of 03/26/15)Since September 2014, 50 cases of CO poisoning (including 2 new cases since 03/11) affecting 156 people in Aquitaine (2 deaths); nationally, 35 deaths have been recorded since September 2014.
