COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Nouvelle-Aquitaine as of January 21, 2021

Key Points

  • The spread of SARS-CoV-2 continues in the region, with an increase in the incidence rate and positivity rate, while the testing rate remains relatively stable.

  • In week 02-2021 (January 11–17), the number of new confirmed COVID-19 cases rose, with 9,066 new confirmed cases in the region. The incidence rate thus increased (+11%), reaching 151.1 per 100,000 residents. This increase is observed across all age groups, particularly among those aged 75 and older, where the rate rose by 30% and is now the highest (199.6 per 100,000).

  • The positivity rate continues to rise, reaching 5.8% in week 02 compared to 5.2% in week 01. The positivity rate remains highest among those aged 0–14, at 7.6%; however, it has decreased in this age group, while it has increased among those aged 75 and older (6.0% in week 02 compared to 4.9% in week 01). The positivity rate among asymptomatic individuals tested was 3.7%, compared to 13.7% among symptomatic individuals. Among asymptomatic individuals, this rate varies by age group, ranging from 3% to 4% among those aged 15 and older to 7% among children aged 0 to 14 (down from Week 01).

  • In Week 02, the testing rate remained relatively stable, with 2,620 tests performed per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 2,590 per 100,000 in Week 01.
