Bronchiolitis Surveillance in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Update as of January 19, 2022.
Key Points
Since early December, a decline in all epidemiological indicators has been observed across the region. In week 02-2022, SOS Médecins medical visits and emergency room visits decreased, as did the hospitalization rate for bronchiolitis. The circulation of RSV is also less active across the region. Given these factors, the region has been declared to have entered the post-epidemic phase.
In week 02-2022 (January 10–16, 2022):
119 emergency department visits were recorded, representing 8.7% of activity among children under 2 years of age (compared to 9.8% in week 01), of which 50 were followed by hospitalization, representing 42.0% of bronchiolitis cases;
The proportion of bronchiolitis cases among hospitalizations for children under 2 years of age has decreased for the second consecutive week (16.8% in Week 02 compared to 23.7% in Week 01); the majority involve children under 1 year of age;
31 SOS Médecins consultations were recorded, representing 4.0% of activity involving children under 2 years of age (compared to 5.1% in Week 01);
The proportion of positive respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) tests is decreasing according to the Bordeaux University Hospital and stable according to data from the Limoges University Hospital.
At the regional level, bronchiolitis activity remains low to moderate across all departments.
