Key Points

Data on emergency department visits from the OSCOUR® network

  • Increase in mental health issues among children aged 11 to 17 observed since September 2020

  • In 2021, the number of emergency room visits for suicidal acts and suicidal ideation among children aged 11 to 17 remains higher than those observed during this period in 2018–2020

  • Increase in emergency department visits for mood disorders among children aged 11 to 17 compared to the years 2018–2020

Medical procedure data from the SOS Médecins associations

  • Decrease in medical procedures for anxiety in 2021 among adults

  • Decrease in healthcare utilization for depressive disorders in the second half of 2021

CoviPrev data

  • One-time drop in reported sleep disorders during the August and September wave

  • Anxiety disorders remain at a higher level than estimated before the pandemic.

Analysis of the latest months (October–November)

The monitored mental health indicators show no significant changes in October and November 2021. However, following the decline observed in the summer, the start of the school year appears to be correlated with increases in clusters of symptoms related to psychological distress among children (suicidal thoughts and behaviors, mood disorders), particularly among children aged 11 to 17. The latest waves of the CoviPrev survey (waves 28–29) show no significant changes in the region.
