Heat and Health in the Hauts-de-France Region. A Review of the Summer of 2025.

Key Points

  • In Hauts-de-France, more than 1,900 emergency care visits due to heat waves were recorded during the summer (1,150 of which resulted in hospitalization), 6% of which occurred on days with heat waves. All age groups were affected, but people aged 75 and older were the most affected (particularly for hospitalizations following visits to the emergency room), followed by those aged 15–74.

  • Heat-related mortality is estimated at nearly 370 deaths over the entire summer (representing 2.5% of all-cause mortality observed), including nearly 60 deaths during heatwave days (≈ 12% of all-cause mortality observed during these episodes). Nearly three-quarters of these deaths involved people aged 75 and older, whether over the entire summer or during heatwave episodes.
