Key Points

  • In Hauts-de-France, between 2021 and 2023, the standardized incidence rate of patients hospitalized for ischemic heart disease was slightly higher than that of France (467 vs. 459 per 100,000 inhabitants in France), with an average of 20,461 patients hospitalized per year in the region. The standardized prevalence in 2022 was 5.9% in the region, higher than that of France (5.6%). The standardized mortality rate (2020–2022) was also higher in the region (67 per 100,000 inhabitants) compared to the national rate (59 per 100,000 inhabitants).

  • Between 2021 and 2023, the standardized incidence rate of patients hospitalized for heart failure in Hauts-de-France was higher than that of France (423 vs. 344 per 100,000 inhabitants), with an average of 17,640 patients hospitalized per year in the region. The standardized prevalence was 2.7% in 2022 in the region, slightly higher than that of France (2.5%). The standardized mortality rate (2020–2022) was higher in the region compared to France (53 vs. 46 per 100,000 inhabitants, respectively).

  • Between 2021 and 2023, the standardized incidence rate of patients hospitalized for stroke in Hauts-de-France was higher than that of France (254 vs. 231 per 100,000 inhabitants, respectively), with an average of 10,973 patients hospitalized per year in the region. The standardized prevalence in 2022 was 2.2% in the region, slightly higher than the national prevalence (2.0%). The standardized mortality rate in the region (62 per 100,000 inhabitants) was slightly higher than that of France (58).

  • At the subregional level, several departments in the region had higher incidence rates. There was some heterogeneity at the subdepartmental level, particularly in certain areas of Nord and Pas-de-Calais with high incidence rates for all three conditions. The predominantly rural EPCIs in northern Aisne had high rates of ischemic heart disease in terms of incidence, prevalence, and mortality.
