Situation Analysis

Flu-like Illnesses: Flu indicators are showing a slight increase in community practice. No influenza virus has been isolated at the CHUM Virology Laboratory.

Gastroenteritis: Activity related to gastroenteritis increased in week S2016-42, exceeding the expected seasonal value in community practice. The situation should be closely monitored over the coming weeks.

Bronchiolitis: An epidemic has been declared; all surveillance indicators increased in week S2016-41, both in community practice and in emergency department visits. The CHUM Virology Laboratory reports that 70% of samples are positive for RSV. Eight severe cases of bronchiolitis have been hospitalized in the CHUM pediatric intensive care unit.
