Malaria in French Guiana. Update as of March 28, 2024.

Summary

Malaria activity remained at moderate levels during the first three weeks of March.

In January and February, infections reportedly occurred mainly in rural areas of the Littoral region and also in peri-urban areas, particularly in the commune of Roura (the villages of Cacao and Favard). Investigations are underway for patients identified in March.

  • 217 malaria cases diagnosed in the region, 56 patients hospitalized, 0 deaths.

  • 215 P. vivax (Pv) cases, including 79 relapses (37%), and 2 P. falciparum (Pf) cases.

  • 5 imported cases (including the 2 Pf cases), 82 autochthonous cases, and 47 cases for which the presumed site of infection could not be identified (provisional data).
