Influenza Outbreak Update in French Guiana. As of March 24, 2017.

Analysis of the Epidemiological Situation

During the month of March, the number of consultations for flu-like illness remained low and below the levels observed at the start of the epidemic. Consequently, the epidemic has ended throughout French Guiana. It lasted 23 weeks, from September 2016 to February 2017.During the epidemic period, the impact of the outbreak on the hospital sector remained low at the CHAR and low to moderate at the CMCK and the GMC. During the outbreak, the A/H3N2 influenza virus was predominant. It should be noted that RSV, the virus responsible for bronchiolitis, has been the most commonly identified virus in recent weeks. In total, during the epidemic, 4 severe cases—including 1 linked to Influenza A (subtype unspecified) and 3 linked to A/H3N2—were recorded, and no influenza-related deaths were reported.
