Analysis of the Epidemiological Situation

The seasonal influenza epidemic has ended in the region. This bimodal epidemic began in early March and ended during the third week of July. A total of 11,640 cases of influenza-like illness were estimated during this period based on data from the sentinel physician network and the CDPS. The impact of the epidemic on the activity of the Cayenne on-call medical service and the emergency departments of the Cayenne General Hospital and the Kourou Hospital was low to moderate.Influenza viruses B, A, A/H3N2, and A/H1N1pdm2009 were identified by the National Reference Center for Influenza Viruses at the Pasteur Institute of French Guiana and by the Virology Laboratory at Cayenne General Hospital during this period.
