Influenza Outbreak Update in French Guiana. As of April 29, 2022.

Key Points

  • Slight increase in consultations for acute respiratory infections in private practice during week 16

  • Low number of consultations for flu-like symptoms, mainly concentrated in the Maroni area over the past two weeks

  • Low activity in emergency departments for flu-like illness despite a slight increase in consultations in week 16

  • Low positivity rate in private practice

  • Circulating influenza viruses: A/H3N2 (predominant) and A/H1N1pdm09

  • No new severe cases admitted to intensive care

French Guiana has been in the post-epidemic phase of the flu since late March (week 2022-12). Over the past two weeks, the situation has remained generally calm. If this trend continues and provided that no other influenza virus begins to circulate in the region, the end of the seasonal flu epidemic could be announced in the coming weeks.
