Key Points
Dengue
Over the past two weeks, dengue activity in the territory remained low, with 6 confirmed cases (4 in S42 and 2 in S41), including 3 residing in the Western Coast, 1 in the Savanes sector, 1 in the Maroni region, and 1 outside French Guiana.
Since the beginning of the year, 284 cases of dengue have been confirmed in French Guiana, an average of 7 per week. Of these, 140 were from the Savanes sector, 63 from the Western Coast, 32 from Cayenne Island, 10 from the Maroni region, 1 from the Eastern Interior sector; the location was undetermined for 31 cases, and 7 were residents outside French Guiana. Of the 190 samples serotyped, 97% were DENV-2.
Malaria
The number of malaria cases was low and declining over the past two weeks, with 1 case reported (0 in S41 and 1 in S42, vs. 10 in total in S39 and S40). This was a P. vivax episode.
A total of 131 malaria cases have been reported since the beginning of the year. Malaria activity was low and relatively stable over the past two months. Most infections occurred in gold-panning areas.
Acute Respiratory Infections
The number of consultations for flu-like illness was moderate across the entire territory. This activity is likely due to the circulation of rhinoviruses/enteroviruses, as influenza viruses are currently rarely detected.
Bronchiolitis activity was stable and remained at a low level in French Guiana.
COVID-19-related activity remained low in French Guiana, with three emergency room visits at the three hospitals for this reason over the past four weeks.
Diarrhea
Activity was high in primary care centers and local hospitals, as well as in the emergency departments of the three hospitals.
