French Guiana Public Health Bulletin. April 2018.

Key Points

  • The return rate for 24-month health certificates (CS24), from which the vaccination coverage data presented below are derived, remains low in French Guiana (19% in 2014, 15% in 2015, data pending for 2016) and lower than the national average (27% in 2016).

  • In general, vaccination coverage is insufficient in French Guiana, except for the "DTP, pertussis, and Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib)" and hepatitis B vaccines.

  • Given the current context of a measles resurgence in mainland France and the occurrence of confirmed cases in the Americas region—previously considered measles-free— special attention must be paid to the risk of introducing this disease into French Guiana and the establishment of transmission chains within the territory, especially since MMR vaccination coverage there is insufficient.

  • French Guiana is the French region with the highest proportion of people in favor of vaccination.
