Epidemiological Situation of Dengue Fever in French Guiana. Update as of September 14, 2012

Dengue activity was relatively low during the months of June through August. During this period, the number of clinically suspected dengue cases and the number of laboratory-confirmed cases remained below expected peak levels each week.However, dengue outbreaks were reported in the municipalities of Cayenne, Kourou, St. Laurent, Maripasoula, Macouria, and Papaïchton. During the last week of August, outbreaks were still active in Kourou.The three serotypes (DENV-1, DENV-2, and DENV-4) are currently co-circulating in French Guiana, with a strong predominance of DENV-2, which has circulated only sporadically over the past five years. The epidemiological situation of dengue in French Guiana remains at Phase 2 of the Psage: "Epidemic Outbreaks."
