Analysis of the Epidemiological Situation

Circulation of the chikungunya virus in the West, Maroni, and Oyapock sectors was low or even nonexistent during the last three weeks of August (S2015-32 to 35).In contrast, on the island of Cayenne, chikungunya activity was moderate, with epidemic outbreaks identified particularly in the municipality of Cayenne. Finally, in the Kourou sector—the only sector still experiencing an epidemic—data on clinically suggestive cases were unavailable for the entire month of August.However, the weekly number of confirmed or probable cases identified during the period indicated that the virus remained active and widespread in this sector.
