Epidemiological Situation of Chikungunya in French Guiana. Update as of May 7, 2015.

Analysis of the epidemiological situation

Areas with an epidemic: The weekly number of clinically suspected chikungunya cases is trending downward in the Kourou and Maroni sectors, reaching levels close to those observed at the start of the epidemic, while it remains stable at low levels in the West and Cayenne Island sectors.

Sectors with moderate local transmission of the virus: A single confirmed case was recorded in Saint Georges, indicating low circulation of the virus in that municipality, while no cases have been confirmed in the other municipalities in the non-epidemic zone.On February 10, 2015, the management committee determined that the municipalities from Maripasoula to Cayenne were in Phase 3 of the Psage, corresponding to an epidemic situation. The other municipalities remained in Phase 2b, corresponding to moderate local transmission of the virus with epidemic clusters and local chains of transmission.
