Epidemiological Situation of Chikungunya in French Guiana. Update as of March 13, 2015.
Analysis of the Epidemiological Situation
Areas with an outbreak: In the West, Kourou, and Maroni sectors, the weekly number of clinically suspected chikungunya cases remains high, while it is at more moderate levels on the island of Cayenne.
Areas with moderate local transmission of the virus: Probable and confirmed cases have been recorded in St. Georges, Roura, and Régina, indicating active circulation of the virus in these municipalities.
On February 10, 2015, the Management Committee approved the transition to Phase 3 of the Psage*, corresponding to an epidemic situation for the municipality of Maripasoula. Thus, the coastal municipalities and those in the Maroni region are in Phase 3. The other municipalities have remained in Phase 2b, corresponding to moderate local transmission of the virus with epidemic outbreaks and local transmission chains.
