Epidemiological Situation of Chikungunya in French Guiana. Update as of February 13, 2015.

Analysis of the Epidemiological Situation

Areas with outbreaks: In the Kourou and Western Guyana sectors, the weekly number of clinically suspected chikungunya cases has fluctuated and remained high over the past three weeks. On the island of Cayenne, this number has remained stable at levels close to those observed at the start of the outbreak. In the Maroni region, this number was increasing, primarily due to cases reported by the Maripa-Soula CDPS.

Areas where local transmission of the virus is moderate: The St. Georges CDPS has recorded clinically suggestive cases of chikungunya, indicating that the virus remains active in this municipality. On February 10, 2015, the Management Committee approved the transition to Phase 3 of the Psage*, corresponding to an epidemic situation for the municipality of Maripa-Soula. Thus, the coastal municipalities and those in the Maroni region are in Phase 3. The other municipalities have remained in Phase 2b, corresponding to moderate local transmission of the virus with epidemic outbreaks and local transmission chains.
