Dengue in French Guiana. Update as of March 14, 2024.
Key Points
Dengue virus circulation is slightly down across the territory in S10, with regional variations depending on the sector. Dengue virus circulation is at a lower level than that observed before the Carnival holidays: the overall trend has been downward across the territory for at least two weeks, though trends are difficult to interpret during holiday periods. In most sectors, the trend is toward stability or even a decline in circulation in S10, except in the Oyapock sector, where an increase is observed.
The DENV-2 serotype was the most commonly identified in S10 (61% DENV-2 and 39% DENV-3 among serotyped samples); it was predominant on the island of Cayenne and in the West Coast sector.
Since January 2023, 16,366 clinically suspected dengue cases, seen in general practice or at health centers (CDPS), and 9,690 confirmed cases have been recorded, including 9,449 and 6,889, respectively, in 2024.
The characteristics of 206 hospitalized patients for whom information is available are described on page 4; data are currently being consolidated.
