Dengue in French Guiana. Update as of January 18, 2024.

Key Points

Over the past two weeks, dengue virus circulation has risen sharply and remained at a high level. Epidemiological indicators have been rising in urban areas and emergency departments, particularly on Cayenne Island and in Les Savanes, where viral circulation continued to intensify. Indicators have reached levels higher than those observed during the peak of the previous epidemic in 2020. A more moderate increase is observed on the western coast, and after several relatively quiet weeks, the number of visits to primary care centers in the Maroni and Oyapock regions was on the rise.

The DEN-2 and DEN-3 serotypes are co-circulating in French Guiana. The DEN-2 serotype has become the predominant strain on the island of Cayenne and is also spreading in the Savanes region.
