Heat and Health in the Grand Est Region. A Review of the Summer of 2025.
Key Points
In the Grand Est region:
Nearly 1,480 emergency care visits related to heat waves were recorded during the summer, 960 of which resulted in hospitalization. 15.5% of these visits occurred during heat waves. While all age groups were affected, people aged 75 and older remained the most affected (51%), ahead of those aged 15–74.
Heat-related mortality is estimated at more than 450 deaths over the entire summer (more than 3% of all-cause mortality observed), including more than 130 deaths during heat waves (representing approximately 12% of all-cause mortality observed during these episodes). More than half of these deaths occurred among people aged 75 and older over the course of the summer, and nearly two-thirds during heatwave episodes.
