Health Surveillance in the Alsace Region. Epidemiological Update as of December 6, 2012

Key Points

  • The number of diagnoses of influenza and influenza-like illness reported by the SOS Médecins associations in Strasbourg and Mulhouse has remained low in recent weeks.

  • The number of cases of bronchiolitis and bronchitis among children under 2 years of age rose sharply in week 48 for both associations in the region. This situation is also being observed in mainland France, with a sharp increase in the number of visits to hospital emergency departments for infant bronchiolitis over the past two weeks. The peak of the epidemic could be reached in the coming weeks.

  • Over the past two weeks, the number of diagnoses of diarrhea and gastroenteritis reported by the SOS Médecins d'Alsace associations has been high. Gastroenteritis was the most frequently diagnosed condition in week 48 by the Bas-Rhin association and the second most frequent by the Haut-Rhin association.
