Epidemiological surveillance in the Lorraine region. Update as of May 28, 2015.
Key Highlights
In Lorraine, activity at emergency departments and the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle allergy association remains within the fluctuations observed during this period in previous years. Allergy diagnoses account for less than 1% of all diagnoses made by emergency departments in the region and less than 2.5% of diagnoses made by the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association.
The number of asthma diagnoses recorded by emergency departments and by the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association remains comparable to the number usually observed. Thus, over the past two weeks, between 50 and 70 weekly diagnoses were recorded in emergency departments (approximately 0.5% of total diagnoses) and between 10 and 15 weekly diagnoses by the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association (less than 2% of total diagnoses).
According to the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA), the allergy risk is high in Lorraine for grass pollen.
Over the past few weeks, the number of heat-related illness diagnoses recorded by emergency departments and the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association has remained within the usual range. In week 21, these conditions accounted for less than 0.3% of activity in Lorraine’s emergency departments, with 27 weekly diagnoses. Similarly, activity related to heat-related illnesses at the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association is very low or even nonexistent.
Following the increase in gastroenteritis diagnoses observed between weeks 11 and 16, the number of these diagnoses has decreased and returned to seasonal norms. In week 21, 114 weekly diagnoses were made by emergency departments, representing less than 1% of total diagnoses, and 51 weekly diagnoses of gastroenteritis and diarrhea were made by SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle, representing 6% of total diagnoses.
According to data from the virology laboratory at Nancy University Hospital, in week 21, only one adenovirus was isolated from stool samples.
