Epidemiological Surveillance in the Lorraine Region. Update as of August 20, 2015.

Highlights

  • One facility in Moselle has not submitted data since August 14, so last week’s data is incomplete. The facility has been contacted, and the issue is being resolved.

  • Following an increase in week 32, the number of allergy diagnoses recorded by emergency departments remains high in week 33, with 167 weekly diagnoses, representing 1.5% of all diagnoses. Conversely, following a decline in week 32, activity related to these conditions remains low for the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association, with 11 weekly diagnoses in week 33. This condition accounts for 1.4% of the association’s activity.

  • For several weeks now, the weekly number of recorded asthma diagnoses has remained low for both data sources. In week 33, this condition accounted for less than 0.5% of activity at emergency departments in Lorraine and less than 1% of that at the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association.

  • According to the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA), the allergy risk from grass pollen is very low in the four departments of Lorraine. The allergy risk from nettle pollen, meanwhile, is low in the Vosges and very low in the region’s three other departments.

  • In week 33, the number of heat-related illness diagnoses recorded by Lorraine’s emergency services and the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association remains low, with 49 and 2 weekly diagnoses, respectively. This activity accounts for less than 0.5% of the activity of Lorraine’s emergency services and 0.25% of the activity of the SOS Médecins association.

  • Following excess mortality observed during weeks 27 and 28, the figures observed since week 29 are within expected ranges. These figures are currently being finalized. A comprehensive report on mortality linked to the heatwave that swept across France from June 29 to July 8 will be available by the end of summer.
