Epidemiological surveillance in the Alsace region. Update as of March 20, 2014.

Highlights

  • Nationwide, the flu epidemic appears to be winding down. This remains to be confirmed next week.

  • In the Alsace region, the trend is similar according to data from both the region’s SOS Médecins associations and the Unified Flu Network.

  • Regionally, the period of high activity associated with bronchiolitis appears to have ended for the region’s SOS Médecins associations. Similarly, the proportion of respiratory specimens testing positive for RSV is declining, according to data from the virology laboratory at the University Hospitals of Strasbourg.

  • At the regional level, gastroenteritis and diarrhea continue to be diagnosed by regional associations. Rotavirus remains highly prevalent in samples analyzed by the virology laboratory at the Strasbourg University Hospitals during weeks 9 and 10.

  • Despite the arrival of warmer weather and the start of flowering, no increase in the number of asthma and allergy diagnoses was observed in weeks 10 and 11, according to data from the region’s SOS Médecins associations.

  • According to the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network, Alsace is currently at moderate allergy risk.
