• In 2024, the prevalence of suicidal thoughts in the past 12 months among 18- to 79-year-olds was estimated at 4.5%.

• The prevalence of lifetime suicide attempts was 6.4%, and that of attempts in the past 12 months was 0.5%.

Emergency room visits for self-harm (OSCOUR® 2024 – all ages)

• In 2024, 2,995 emergency department visits for self-harm were recorded in the region, corresponding to a 4.2‰ share of activity, stable compared to 2023.

Hospitalizations for self-harm (SNDS PMSI-MCO 2024 – all ages)

• In 2024, 3,628 hospitalizations due to self-harm were recorded, representing a standardized rate of 144 hospitalizations per 100,000 inhabitants, an 8% increase compared to 2023.

• Among women, the 11–24 age group had the highest rates, particularly among adolescent girls aged 11 to 17, with 595 hospitalizations per 100,000 female residents.

• Drug overdose accounted for 78% of hospital stays, the most common cause regardless of gender.

Deaths by Suicide (SNDS CépiDc 2023 – all ages)

• In 2023, 387 suicide deaths were recorded in the region, corresponding to a standardized rate of 15 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, a 7% decrease compared to 2022.

• Men aged 45 and older had the highest rates: 33 deaths per 100,000 men among those aged 45–64 and 47 deaths per 100,000 men among those aged 65 and older.

• Hanging was the most common cause of death, accounting for 51% of cases, regardless of gender.

2024 Activity of the 3114 and VigilanS Prevention Programs

• From June to December 2024, 3114, the national suicide prevention hotline, received 7,251 calls from the region.

• In 2024, one center participated in the VigilanS program for follow-up and monitoring to prevent repeat suicide attempts in the region, and 1,694 people were enrolled in the program.
