Summary

Influenza and Influenza-Like Illness The epidemic continues its upward trend: an increase in the number of emergency room visits and calls to SOS Médecins, nearly identical to last year. Viral circulation is predominantly type B, on the rise at Brest University Hospital (12% positivity rate, out of 101 samples).A very gradual increase in Type A viral circulation at Brest University Hospital (2% positivity rate, based on 101 samples). Three severe cases of influenza have been admitted to the intensive care unit since week 02/2016. Two were infected with a Type B virus and one with a Type A virus.

Gastroenteritis: The epidemic continues, with activity remaining moderate in primary care: the incidence rate of acute diarrhea is estimated at 176 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (95% CI [103, 249], unconsolidated Sentinelles data).Emergency department visits remain stable, reaching nearly last year’s peak for community-based emergency departments and approximately 60% of the level seen in hospital emergency departments. Gastroenteritis accounts for 2% of diagnoses in hospital emergency departments and 8% of diagnoses at SOS Médecins.
