Key Points

• Seven departments in the region were placed under an orange heat wave alert from August 19 to 25, 2023 (for three departments, the heat wave had begun as early as August 18, 2023).

• Trends in heat-related morbidity indicators from August 18 to 28, 2023:

  • a decline in emergency department visits for the composite heatwave indicator (iCanicule) among coded visits across all age groups since August 25;

  • an increase since August 19, 2023, in the proportion of hospitalizations following visits for the composite heatwave indicator (iCanicule) among coded hospitalizations for all ages, but a decline in this indicator among those aged 75 and older since the last day of the orange alert;

  • The proportion of SOS Médecins calls for iCanicule among all age groups (low numbers) has returned to stable levels observed outside heatwave periods.
