Detailed Analysis of Trauma-Related Deaths Among Children Under 15 Each year in mainland France, 450 children under the age of 15 die from trauma. The number and general characteristics of these deaths are known thanks to data from death certificates provided by the Center for Epidemiology on Medical Causes of Death (CépiDc). However, these data are insufficient to accurately describe the circumstances surrounding the trauma that led to a death.A feasibility study on "Mortality from Accidents in Daily Life Among Children Under 15 Years of Age - Mac-15" was conducted in 2009 in three French regions (Ile-de-France, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur). It enabled the collection of detailed information from certifying physicians regarding the circumstances leading to the accidental death of 76 children. This study thus demonstrated that it was both feasible and appropriate to develop this approach to ensure the epidemiological surveillance of fatal injuries among children. As a result, the French Institute for Public Health Surveillance (InVS) has established an ongoing database of detailed circumstances for all trauma-related deaths among children under 15 in mainland France. This database, titled "Detailed Analysis of Fatal Traumas in Children Under 15 (ADT)," aims to provide detailed knowledge of the circumstances surrounding fatal traumas in order to assess their preventability and tailor prevention messages to at-risk populations.Information will be reported to the InVS by the physicians who issued the death certificate; they will be asked to report to the InVS any trauma-related death of a child under 15 using a questionnaire. This questionnaire may also be completed by anyone who treated the victim and/or has detailed knowledge of the specific circumstances of the trauma.
