Public Health Surveillance in Rhône-Alpes. Epidemiological Update as of July 30, 2015.
Summary
Heat Wave and Health Alert System: Heat-related indicators for emergency room visits and SOS Médecins consultations remained high last week (week 30) due to persistently high temperatures, which justified maintaining Level 3 in certain departments of the region. The trend for both indicators has been downward since the start of the week. Excess mortality was observed during the first three weeks of July. These data are currently being consolidated, and a comprehensive assessment of mortality during the heat waves that affected the Rhône-Alpes region will be conducted at the end of the summer season.
Enhanced surveillance for chikungunya and dengue: Since May 1, 2015, 13 cases of dengue and 3 cases of imported chikungunya have been confirmed in the five departments of the region covered by this surveillance system.
West Africa Ebola Update: As of July 22, 2015, the WHO reports a total of 27,741 cases and 11,284 deaths in the three most affected countries. In week 29, the number of new cases reported in Sierra Leone and Guinea decreased slightly compared to the previous week (N=26). In Liberia, no new cases were reported in week 29 [Learn more]
