Public Health Surveillance in Rhône-Alpes. Epidemiological Update as of July 23, 2015.
Summary
Since June 1, 2015, a heat wave alert (Météo-France orange level) has been issued twice in the Rhône-Alpes region. The first episode occurred from Monday, June 29, to Wednesday, July 8, 2015, and affected approximately 50 metropolitan departments, including all eight in the Rhône-Alpes region. The second episode, from Wednesday, July 15, to Saturday, July 18, affected only the Rhône department. However, the other departments in the region were under a yellow alert. Since June 1, 2015, more than 1,300 emergency room visits may be linked to the heat, nearly 60% of which involved patients aged 75 or older. The peak in heat-related emergency room visits occurred on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, with 93 visits throughout the day, which was the hottest day recorded in Rhône-Alpes since the start of the monitoring period. At the same time, approximately 450 SOS Médecins consultations were attributed to the heat, 46% of which involved people aged 75 and older. The peak in heat-related SOS Médecins consultations was observed on Sunday, July 5, 2015.
