COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes as of April 8, 2021
Key Points
In Week 13 (March 29–April 4) in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, the increase in incidence observed since Week 10 continued (+13%) but at a less pronounced rate than in Week 12, with 32,191 new confirmed cases, or nearly 4,600 cases on average each day. At the regional level, incidence rates (401 per 100,000 inhabitants) and testing rates (4,998 per 100,000 inhabitants) are higher than in Week 12, but the positivity rate has decreased slightly (8.0% vs. 8.3% in Week 12). The increase in incidence is observed across all age groups, particularly among those aged 15–64 (+15%); it is lower among those over 75 (+3%) and among those under 15 (+6%) despite a still significant increase in the testing rate (+24%) in this age group. Analysis of screening test results for variants of concern continues to show a clear predominance of suspected 20I/501Y.V1 variants, which accounted for 86% of screened tests in the region during week 13.
