Situation Analysis

The gastroenteritis outbreak has been ongoing for 12 weeks in Martinique, but the trend has been declining since early February. Since the start of the outbreak, an estimated 13,600 cases of gastroenteritis have been reported. REMINDER: To limit the spread of the viruses causing this outbreak, it is essential to follow basic hygiene rules, particularly regular handwashing with soap. Parents are reminded that if their children (especially the youngest ones) show symptoms of gastroenteritis (diarrhea, vomiting), they should consult their primary care physician to prevent dehydration, which can be severe in infants.
