Perinatal Care in Guadeloupe: Current Status and Intervention Strategies.
In Guadeloupe, the perinatal care plan takes into account the unique geographical characteristics of this archipelago, where the population is spread across relatively isolated areas. For example, in Marie-Galante, a local perinatal center provides close monitoring of women throughout their pregnancies, and they are transferred to the main island one month before their due date for the safety of both mother and child. Furthermore, as in other overseas departments and regions, perinatal indicators remain unfavorable, and the population of Guadeloupe is additionally exposed to the risk of chlordecone contamination. Among the conditions with high prevalence are obesity and gestational diabetes.
