Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika 

• No new locally transmitted cases identified
• The regional tally remains at a single outbreak of locally transmitted dengue (2 cases) in the Bouches-du-Rhône department.

West Nile virus infections

• High-risk period for West Nile virus infection; active circulation of the virus in the Bouches-du-Rhône, Vaucluse, and Var departments A total of 23 human cases have been identified in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) region (+5 cases compared to the last update), half of whom were hospitalized. Ten cases were diagnosed in the Bouches-du-Rhône, 8 cases in the Vaucluse, and 5 cases in the Var.
• A very large number of equine cases have been diagnosed in these same departments.

Heat Wave, Extreme Heat

• The fourth heat wave in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) region began on September 5 and ended on September 8: Vaucluse was the only department under an orange alert, while the Alpes-Maritimes, Bouches-du-Rhône, and Var were under a yellow alert.

Asthma at the Start of the School Year

• Every year, during the two weeks following the start of the school year, there is a spike in emergency care visits for asthma among children. In the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) region, asthma-related visits to SOS Médecins and emergency departments among children under 15 remain low during Week 36 (the week schools reopen in mainland France).

Mortality

• The number of deaths from all causes, based on INSEE civil registry data, remained within the usual range of fluctuation in Week 35 (graphs not shown).
• Data on electronic death certificates for all causes in S36 also remained in the same range as those typically observed.
