Chikungunya and Dengue in French Guiana. Bulletin dated September 17, 2026.

Key Points

Dengue

  • Dengue activity is low throughout the country.

Chikungunya

Since late January (Week 04), 1,912 cases of chikungunya have been laboratory-confirmed in French Guiana, including 34 in Week 37 (unconsolidated data). The virus is actively circulating in the territory:

  • Western Coast: After several weeks of decline in the number of visits to the CHOG emergency department for suspected chikungunya, the number rose slightly in Week 37. Despite the slowdown in viral circulation on the Western Coast, the outbreak continues in this area.
  • Savanas: Although it remains high, the number of emergency room visits at the CHK for suspected chikungunya was down in Week 37, and the proportion of activity related to these visits was 7%. Viral circulation remains active in this sector, and the outbreak continues.
  • Cayenne Island: In Week 37, four active outbreaks were being monitored, spread across two municipalities in the sector. Due to the lack of some laboratory data, the trend cannot be interpreted. Cayenne Island is in the outbreak phase.
  • Maroni: No new cases were biologically confirmed in Week 37 in this sector, which is in the sporadic transmission phase.
  • Interior, Eastern Interior, and Oyapock: No new cases were biologically confirmed in Week 37. These sectors are in the epidemiological surveillance phase.
