Chikungunya
Since late January (Week 04), 1,604 cases of chikungunya have been laboratory-confirmed in French Guiana, including 67 in Week 33 (unconsolidated data). The virus is actively circulating in the territory:
- Western Coast: The number of visits to the CHOG emergency department for suspected chikungunya remained stable at a moderate level. The virus is circulating in this area, which is experiencing an epidemic.
- Savanes: The number of visits to the CHK emergency department for suspected chikungunya was rising sharply and remained at a high level. The epidemic continues in this sector.
- Cayenne Island: A slight increase in the number of confirmed cases was recorded, and in S33, seven active outbreaks were being monitored, spread across the sector’s three municipalities. Cayenne Island is in the phase of epidemic outbreaks.
- Maroni: Cases continued to be biologically confirmed in this sector, which is in the sporadic transmission phase.
- Interior, Eastern Interior, and Oyapock: No new cases were identified in Week 33. These sectors are in the epidemiological surveillance phase.
