Health Surveillance in Brittany. Bulletin of July 10, 2026.

Key Points

Extreme Heat, Heat Wave

  • Brittany experienced its second heatwave of S26 (June 21–27). All departments were placed under a red alert from June 22 to 25 (except for Ille-et-Vilaine, on June 26).
  • A very significant increase in emergency room visits and SOS Médecins consultations was observed during this heatwave alert period. The indicators reached unprecedented levels, never before observed since the monitoring system was established. Activity has decreased significantly in Week 27, both in emergency rooms and through SOS Médecins, although it remains above seasonal norms.

Allergies

  • A decrease in activity at emergency rooms and for SOS Médecins, with rates now at the levels seen in 2025 and 2024 during the same period.

Gastroenteritis

  • Moderate activity, with a decrease in emergency department visits and stable SOS Médecins consultations.

ENT Conditions

  • Activity related to ENT conditions was moderate to low. In Week 27, among children under 5, ENT conditions accounted for 10.6% of emergency department visits (12.1% in Week 26) and 44% of SOS Médecins consultations (38% in Week 26). The virology laboratories at Rennes University Hospital and Brest University Hospital detected rhinoviruses/enteroviruses in 27% (7/26) and 12% (8/65) of the samples tested, respectively.
