Prevention is a key focus for improving the health of the French population. As such, it is a priority for the government. Prevention policies have been in place for several decades: vaccination campaigns, cancer screenings, and tobacco control efforts have helped improve the health of the French population. Today, the goal is to take the next step in implementing prevention policies in France.

Indeed, despite the strengths of our healthcare system, France faces numerous health and social challenges, such as an aging population and chronic diseases. To address these challenges, it is therefore essential to develop a new, ambitious approach that meets the expectations of the French people.

The “Mon bilan prévention” program is a cornerstone of this comprehensive strategy

Announced by the President of the Republic in 2022, this program offers everyone an appointment at key life stages to take stock of their health with a healthcare professional: between the ages of 18 and 25, 45 and 50, 60 and 65, and between 70 and 75.

“Mon bilan prévention” gives French citizens access to a new personalized service that allows them to take the time, during a consultation with a healthcare professional (doctor, nurse, pharmacist, midwife, and soon physical therapist), to assess their health and lifestyle habits. Thus, depending on their age, every French citizen will be able to receive tailored and targeted advice. Issues related to diet, sleep, physical activity, mental health, and sexual health can be addressed during these check-ups. Each preventive health check-up will also serve as an opportunity to inform insured individuals about various public health initiatives, such as vaccination campaigns and organized cancer screenings.

The goal of this innovative program is to empower everyone to take charge of their own health and to raise awareness throughout their lives about behaviors that promote good health.

These preventive checkups are fully covered by Medicare with no out-of-pocket costs.

My Preventive Health Checkup: A Long-Term Public Health Initiative Conducted in Partnership with Healthcare Professionals

This program is designed for the long term. Ultimately, the goal is for every French citizen to be able to benefit from four checkups over the course of their lifetime.

Healthcare professionals are a vital link in this program, ensuring it is closely aligned with local communities and meets the specific health needs of the population.

Regional Health Agencies (ARS) and Primary Health Insurance Funds (CPAM)—including the MSA, which offers a specific program for its most vulnerable insured members—also play a vital role by helping to mobilize all stakeholders, thanks to their knowledge of local areas and specific environmental and socio-economic conditions. Reducing social inequalities in health also requires the deployment of this prevention tool, tailored to the needs of the French population and aligned with their expectations.
In addition, specific information and an “outreach” strategy developed by Santé Publique France will be implemented to specifically target populations who are more distant from the healthcare system.

A major communication campaign was launched yesterday by the Ministry of Labor, Health, and Solidarity, featuring several television and radio spots designed to raise awareness among all French citizens about the program. A communication kit is available to healthcare professionals who wish to inform their patients about the option to undergo these preventive screenings.
