Alcool-info-service.fr, a national remote support and counseling service for alcohol and addiction issues led by Santé publique France, has been completely redesigned to improve the flow and accessibility of information and advice. The site now features new content and formats, such as podcasts and personal testimonials. The goal of this redesign is to provide answers to anyone seeking information about alcohol or looking to address their own drinking or that of a loved one.

A resource site to answer any questions or provide help regarding alcohol use

How can I assess my alcohol consumption? How do I know if I’m drinking too much at parties? How can I cut back on drinking? How do I talk to a loved one who drinks? Can I drink while I’m pregnant? There are many questions about alcohol, and they can affect anyone—including those who drink little or not at all. To provide concrete answers, Santé publique France has undertaken a major overhaul of its dedicated service, Alcool info service, both in form and content, focusing on several key areas:

More accessible information for everyone

Santé publique France has focused on optimizing the website’s content to make it easier for a broad audience to understand: occasional drinkers, social drinkers, regular drinkers, or those with alcohol use disorders; young drinkers; family and friends (parents of young drinkers, partners, etc.); and pregnant women. To achieve this, the Agency worked in accordance with the General Accessibility Improvement Framework (RGAA) and the principles of health literacy.

The redesign also adapted the site to current digital standards to ensure mobile compatibility and improve its search engine optimization.

A positive and engaging tone to encourage reflection and change

A positive and engaging tone to encourage reflection and change
The initiative aims to foster discussion on potentially sensitive topics and encourage reflection on one’s consumption habits or behavioral change. To this end, the site features a new visual identity designed by press illustrator Nishant Choksi and a positive, warm tone that embodies the core values of remote health support initiatives: kindness, support, and active listening.

Enriched and targeted content

A series of podcasts titled “Alcohol, Behind the Glass,” featuring 13 personal accounts, has been posted online to share real-life experiences and journeys. Six expert videos titled “Addiction: Let’s Talk About It?” led by psychiatrists specializing in addiction also address questions raised by users or their loved ones.

Personalized content to find the information that matters

Alcool-Info-Service has developed a needs-based search engine—an integrated search tool that filters and personalizes content based on users’ situations and expectations.

The site offers:

  • a tool, the Alcoometer, which, based on a few questions, allows users to assess their weekly alcohol consumption against established benchmarks and estimate the risks associated with that consumption;

  • personalized services, focused in particular on interactions with professionals or among peers:

    • Forums (for consumers and their support network);

    • Chat moderated by qualified professionals;

    • Q&A;

    • FAQ (frequently asked questions);

    • A directory of organizations specializing in addiction treatment.

In addition to these digital services, Alcool info service offers an anonymous hotline that provides a supportive listening ear, information, advice, and guidance: 0 980 980 930 (no surcharge, open 7 days a week from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m.).

This hotline is intended for both alcohol users and their loved ones.

The counselors have multidisciplinary backgrounds (psychologists, educators, social workers, nurses, financial and family counselors, therapists, etc.). They are all trained in addiction treatment and remote counseling.

A promotional campaign to maximize the visibility of Alcool info service

Starting November 7, Santé publique France will launch a 100% digital promotional campaign aimed at raising awareness of the Alcool info service platform and its services among its various target audiences (consumers, friends and family, pregnant women, etc.)

Two complementary strategies will be used:

  • 13 animated illustrations shared on social media and select websites, highlighting common questions from the target audiences and linking to specific articles, tools, or services available on the Alcool info service website. Three of these illustrations will be displayed as digital signage in healthcare and medical facilities.

  • 4 videos shared on platforms depicting different consumer profiles and their social circles, in moments of doubt or difficulty inspired by real-life situations, and demonstrating how Alcool info service can serve as a resource for these various concerns.

"Alcohol consumption is a complex issue that touches on profound personal and social dimensions. At Santé publique France, our mission is to provide everyone with reliable resources and information to make informed choices. Through accessible tools and a supportive approach, such as those found on Alcool info service, we support anyone who wishes to take action regarding their own alcohol consumption or that of a loved one."
