School-based HPV vaccination campaign in a French region during the 2024-2025 school year: Incentives deployed and analysis of parental consent return
OBJECTIVE: To describe parental consent return for HPV vaccination among seventh-grade students (ages 12-13) in the French region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine during the 2024-2025 school vaccination campaign. METHODS AND RESULTS: In September 2024, 12,023 consents were obtained, representing a decrease compared with the previous school year. To address this decline, the digital consent platform was reopened between January 20 and March 10, 2025, supported by weekly monitoring using a three-color indicator and regular coordination with the three regional education authorities and the Regional Health Agency. During this reopening period, 1506 additional consents were collected. In parallel, a communication strategy based on social marketing was deployed. By the end of the school year, 13,714 consents had been obtained, leading to the vaccination of 10,607 seventh-grade students. CONCLUSION: These measures partially offset the initial decline in consents and suggest that real-time monitoring with tailored communication can improve campaign effectiveness.
