Detection, evaluation and management of the sequelae of infectious encephalitis in adults
In the present guidelines, the authors are proposing recommendations on the management of sequelae occurring at some time subsequent to an episode of acute infectious encephalitis. These recommendations will not include non-infectious encephalitis, non-acute encephalitis, and encephalitis exclusively associated with immunocompromised conditions (PML, neuro-meningeal cryptococcosis, etc.), nor will COVID-19 sequelae without damage attributable to encephalitis be included. By contrast, management of patients presenting with acute encephalitis due to an SARS-CoV-2 infection may draw benefit from the treatment proposed in these recommendations. In this document, encephalitis will be synonymous with infectious encephalitis.
